Maths Day 2017

We had a great time for Maths day where parents and carers had a workshop about what we do in Early Years.

Helping children at home to support their learning in school is important and laying the foundations early and keeping language basic to teach children basic counting, shapes, colour and number recognition.

In early years we have small group taught focused sessions in Nursery and Foundation, we also learn through play where adults model maths concepts with the children.

Activities we took part in on the day were using the light box to make different shapes, bead threading, group games i.e. 'Pop' which helps children to learn their shape names, play dough shape numbers and counting the correct number of apples to match, Using the easel to paint large numbers, using the cubes to make towers of tens and units, using sorting hoops to sort objects into different groups and using animals and Duplo to grasp prepositions. And lots more.
